We’ve noticed an increase in fake adverts doing the rounds on Facebook. Take a look at the advert below:
At first glance this advert looks believable – it’s got Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford in the picture. That group of people on the right of the picture must have done so well with Bitcoin that they’ve made it on TV?
Firstly, the group of people look more like the people from the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
What happens when you click on the advert? See below. You get taken to the BBC News website. Or do you?
This page is made up to look like the genuine BBC website. But if you look at the address bar (see the blue arrow) you will see that it’s taking you to a completely different website. Clicking anywhere on this website will take you to a page where they try to harvest your information – email address and passwords. Or may even try to infect your computer with viruses/malware.
We’ve reported the advert to Facebook and informed the BBC of the fake website.
